Creating Trust in a Relationship

Creating trust in any type of relationship can be difficult, but if people are active about earning and maintaining trust, then it can be the cornerstone of a healthy relationship. When people become friends or they decide to start a life together building trust is the first step. This usually happens through social interaction and talking with the person for long periods of time. Trust will begin to grow over time. If a person displays characteristics that appear untrue or if what they have been saying is a lie, then trust begins to breakdown in a relationship.

Learning how to trust other people is not easy. People must be able to trust themselves in the relationship as well in order to build trust. If you cannot trust someone, then the relationship will not last. Sometimes even when trust has been destroyed, it can be rebuilt if the two people are honest about themselves and where they want to go in the relationship. This is very important when trying to build trust all over again.

Forgiving people is a way of expressing trust. Those who are able to forgive are better able to take the steps to rebuild trust. In a relationship, if the trust cannot be restored, then the relationship is over. This can be devastating for many people, but over time, they are able to recover and move on with their lives. Learning how to trust a new person is the next step. This cycle repeats itself with every new relationship and friendship that a person begins with other people.
